If you type a value into a date field that does not match the expected format, a dialog box will appear warning you of the incorrect format. (Maestro will, however, allow data to be saved in an incorrect format, and potentially queried later on.) There are a number of possible date formats, such as those shown below in Table 1 below which are chosen during the database design phase.

If you do not know a portion of the date, question marks should be substituted for the missing value. For instance, a date value may be May 2011; “??-May-2011” should be entered (assuming the format is dd-mmm-yyyy).
